Founded 2000

History

Baseball was introduced to Fiji in May 2000 through the initiative of the Baseball Confederation of Oceania (BCO), with the Fiji Islands Baseball Association which was formed one month later. The introduction of Baseball in Fiji came about due to the hosting of the 2003 South Pacific Games in Fiji. In order for Baseball to be part of the games Fiji had to field a team in Baseball.  BCO Development Officer, Ray Brown who initiated the formation of a young men’s team for the 2003 South Pacific Games is still being involved with FIBSA’s development at present.  In 2002 a Little League (Kids Baseball) was established to grow children’s interest in Baseball, after the Japanese Government provided a coach through the JICA volunteer scheme to develop the game at the primary school level. A brand new Baseball diamond was built in the Laucala Sports City for the 2003 South Pacific Games.
